Two long established estate agents have closed their branches in Malmesbury following a slump in the housing market.

Henry George and RA Bennett, which sit next to each other in St Dennis Road, are still displaying properties in the window.

But the offices are deserted after they were forced to close.

Director at Henry George Jonathan Conning said: "We had to make a very difficult decision in a terrible market place.

"The level of footfall coming through the door should be in the 30s to 40s a week. In Malmesbury they were barely breaking into the early teens.

"Keeping an office there with that level of activity in this very difficult market was simply not viable. If the market was better we would still be there."

Staff from the branch of RA Bennett have been relocated to the Tetbury office and Henry George has plans to reopen when the market picks up again.
