Persimmon will confirm it has made around 1,000 staff redundant – bringing the total number of jobs losses announced in the sector in the past seven days to 3,200.
Persimmon will confirm how many of its 5,000-strong workforce it has made redundant alongside a trading update on Tuesday. The housebuilder launched a consultation with staff at the end of May, warning that 'several hundred' jobs were at risk.
The bad news will be compounded by the release of the KPMG/REC monthly survey of the employment market tomorrow, which will show that the number of permanent jobs available in Britain has fallen for the first time in five years. The findings will also reveal that the number of people looking for work rose in June.
It follows a warning from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development that unemployment in Britain will rise by 100,000 over the next two years.
Persimmon reports on Tuesday. In January, it announced redundancies linked to the merger of three regional offices, and the City will be looking for efficiency gains from this move. |
